The Sportsman’s News team of Kent Danjanovich and Kevin Orton hunted the pre-rut with Arrowhead Wilderness Outfitters the first week of November. We both held out for a Kansas bruiser and didn’t score on this trip, but plenty of hunters were successful, with three bucks scoring over 170 for the archery season and many more nice bucks taken. Ron Radika of Minnesota took a nice buck during our week of hunting .

Stillwater Outfitters proves that they have what it takes to become a Platinum Approved Outfitter. On a day where strong winds and minimal goose activity hindered most groups in the field, the team of Sportsman’s News was sitting in a hot field which was scouted by the owners Travis and Chris the night before. It paid huge dividends and the team was limited out by 10:30.
Mike Deming (President) spent his day behind the camera getting quality footage for another episode of Sportsman’s News Television, but will be turning the camera over to some of today’s lucky hunters and will pull out my trusty Browning Gold Hunter for day 2.

With all of the big game seasons coming to a close, the Sportsman’s News team has hung up the bows, muzzleloaders, and rifles for the season. We are in the great state of Colorado on the front range and going to personally evaluate Stillwater Outfitters and their waterfowl operation to be endorsed for our Platinum Approved Outfitter program. Our initial research of them has set them apart from all the other outfitters who do waterfowl in Colorado. They have extremely satisfied customers and with the cold weather coming as well as geese by the hundreds of thousands filling the sky in the area, we are pretty sure that they will be our next “PAO”.
We will be getting up at 4:30 to get set up as well as get a good breakfast and then set up between 6 and 15 dozen decoys. Everyone has been limiting out on the morning hunts and we hope the luck continues. We will be updating our posts from the great Americ Inn in Winsor, Colorado daily.

Yep, it’s official… its winter! And for a lot of us, it’s finally time to watch the sunset on all the fun we’ve had all this past year with our ATVs. And yes, I know there are some die-hards out there that keep their machines up and running all winter for everything from late season hunts and ice fishing trips, to going out and plowing the driveway. Am I alone here? Could I quite possibly be one of the only hunters in North America who has not yet hunted whitetail? When I mention this little confession in hunting circles I encounter reactions something akin to what lepers must have felt in the 1700’s. It’s true, I have hunted muleys, elk, bear, turkey and even gator…but not the proverbial mainstay of our hunting culture…whitetail. Continue Reading

Alpen’s Spotting Scope Kit has all of the elements you need to view those groups at the range without having to constantly walk down to the target. On a busy range, getting everyone to stop shooting long enough to check your target can make the other shooters really grumpy. Continue Reading

If you are like me, you have more gear than you have pockets. It seems for every outdoor activity I have, I have 30-40 must have items that I take with me. To help organize and haul all of that gear, 5.11 Tactical has created the Bail Out Bag. This small bag holds a lot of gear and keeps it right at hand and organized for easy access. Continue Reading
