Our family owned, Alaskan fishing lodge is located near the southern boundary of the Wood-Tikchik State Park, the largest state park in the nation. Our Alaska fishing lodge offers fishing trip packages for king salmon, silver salmon, sockeye salmon, pink salmon, chum salmon, native rainbow trout, Arctic char, grayling, Dolly Varden and northern pike. We also have a fly-in camp located on the Nushagak River. The Nushagak River has the largest run of kings of any other river in the state. The run usually exceeds 100,000 kings. We accommodate 8-10 guests per week so you can be sure to receive personal attention. Our fishing lodge features fly fishing trips but we also have spinning and bait casting gear as well. Alaska’s Bearclaw Lodge offers many opportunities to enjoy not only world-class fishing, but also the activities and friendships which will make your trip the experience of a lifetime!

Pro’s Pick: Benelli Vinci

Pro’s Pick: Benelli Vinci

This month’s feature in our new “Pro’s Picks” section is on the Benelli’s Vinci shotgun.  On a recent waterfowl trip to Colorado with Stillwater Outfitters, our staff at Sportsman’s News were able to put the Vinci to the test and it passed with flying colors!

We found this great addition to the line of Benelli shotguns to be lightweight, with very soft recoil, resulting in a very fast shooting cycle.  We experienced no jams or cycling problems what so ever and found it to be one of the most reliable and efficient firearms we have ever put to the test. This vehicle is happiest when it’s out in the back country and hitting the trails.

By Andy Lightbody

With roots that go back to 2002, the Jeep Liberty has continued to be refined and enhanced, since its last major make-over back in 2008. So with only 2 years since getting a major overhaul, there are not a lot of new whistles and bells for 2010 or 2011. That however is not a bad thing. After all, there’s truth in the old saying… if it works, don’t fix it!

If you’re looking for a small SUV that loves being off the beaten path, the Liberty should be on your list of top considerations. Tipping the scales at around 4100 pounds, and a wheelbase of 106.1 inches, the Liberty has style that many say, gives it a chiseled look. To me, it’s all Jeep that has a rough iconic styling, without a lot of flowing and sweeping lines. After all, it’s a Jeep and an off road vehicle! Continue Reading

When the subject of king salmon fishing comes up in most conversations, the usual answer is , “Head for the Kenai River in Alaska”. Now granted, the Kenai is a great fishery and you always have the possibility of hooking into a 70+ pound monster, but the numbers year in and year out don’t match those of other rivers available. If you want to fish a river that boasts the largest average run of king salmon in all of Alaska, you need to head to the “Mighty Nushagak”. Continue Reading

Trophy Bears of British Columbia

Ursus Americanus or Black Bear of North America, is one of the smartest adversaries walking the hunting woods today.   This statement is especially true if you are after a trophy animal.  A big male, which is called a boar, can live in excess of twenty years.  Once that bear has at least a dozen years under his belt, he usually has a huge blocky head, stands well over six feet tall and is a veteran of many hunting seasons.  He is usually fairly nocturnal, except during the months of May and early June, when he will travel many miles looking for a mate.  This is the prime time to harvest a great trophy because these guys will let their guard down, but it still isn’t a guarantee by any means.  Continue Reading
