Próis Hunting & Field Apparel, the leading manufacturer of performance-driven hunting clothing for women, continues to celebrate females who dominate in the field with its annual Próis Awards.  As of today, August 16th, the company has officially given the ‘green light’ for all huntresses who are hardcore at heart to enter the prestigious contest.

And the competition will be stiff, as there is only one winner who will take home the coveted prize: a hunt of a lifetime for Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail and Wolf in the pristine Canadian Rocky Mountains with Savage Encounters.  Plus, she’ll be fully outfitted with the latest hunting gear from top equipment manufacturers and Próis Awards sponsors — a killer package that rings in at more than $25,000 in value.

“Próis and its contest partners are passionate about recognizing strong, successful female hunters who consider hunting a lifestyle, and are involved in conservation, management and the hunting community,” says Kirstie Pike, CEO for Próis Hunting & Field Apparel.  “We’re excited to kick off the start of the 2011 Próis Awards, and receive some amazing stories about fearless women who live to hunt – and hunt to live.”

The ‘No guts, No glory’ statement holds true with the Próis Awards, the winner must have passion, determination and an unbelievable story to tell that will inspire female hunters around the globe. If this sounds like you, visit www.Próishunting.com/Próisaward for details on how to enter.  Submissions will be accepted until midnight September 31, 2011.

Essays and photos are reviewed by a panel of industry expert judges, and the top 12 chosen will then be posted onto the Próis Awards website on October 15, 2011.  Here the hunting community has until December 15, 2011 to cast their vote on which candidate they believe should be crowned the 2011 Próis Award Winner. The finalist with the most votes will officially be announced as the winner to the industry at both the 2012 Archery Trade Association Show in Columbus, OH and the 2012 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, NV.

2011 Próis Awards sponsors include: Próis Hunting and Field Apparel, Savage Encounters, Outdoor Connection, Sports Afield, Blacks Creek, Hunter Hills Journal, Ripcord Arrow Rest, Bowtech, Swarovski Optik, Bog-Pod, Acli-Mate and Zamberlan.

The Próis Awards panel of industry expert judges includes Diana Rupp, Editor in Chief of Sports Afield Magazine, Kirstie Pike, CEO of Próis Hunting & Field Apparel; Craig Boddington, Outdoor Writer; Guy Eastman, Publisher of Eastman’s Hunting Journals; Ron Shmeits, President of the NRA; Ron Spomer, Writer, Wildlife Photographer & TV Host and Brenda Valentine, NWTF Spokesperson & TV Host.

I don’t know what warms the heart more; the high pitched screams of a kid who just caught their first fish “I GOT ONE!” or a dad squeezing the life out of their child with hugs and kisses and shaking them off their feet after they harvest their first animal. The experiences of the hunt and the catch are adrenaline pumping for sure, but sharing them with dad, is like icing on a seven layer cake. Continue Reading

It’s a chick thing.
Honestly, it is.  I have been asked many times about what opportunities there are out there to network with other women who love to hunt and/or shoot.  As I prattle off a well-rehearsed list of great networking options, I am met with one of two reactions.  1) Women who take notes or 2) Men who look confused.  For a time, I couldn’t quite figure out the reactions.  Marsha (my often talked about alter ego) takes the stance of paranoia and convinces me that perhaps I am speaking in tongues and that men couldn’t quite make sense of my word salad.  Yet, how did women understand my apparently strange and unusual dialect?  I know, I know…women have been known to completely communicate with each other through seemingly telepathic channels.  Whereas men have apparently lost use of those channels through evolution…something like an appendix- still there, not functioning but can indeed kill you. Crazy Dave’s Bull

It was October and an acquaintance of mine from Indiana by way of California said he’d like to try elk hunting. I knew him from church and he was referred to as Crazy Dave. After some inquiry I found that he got his nickname after nailing a deacon’s toolbelt to the floor during a work party at church. Doesn’t matter if you’re a rocket scientist, have conquered world hunger or what you’ve done up to that point, one small indiscretion and the rest of your life you’re Crazy Dave.

Believing he was somewhat harmless (I would find out just how harmless later) I agreed to take him elk hunting. He would have to hunt in Colorado’s general over the counter season which is crowded. The success rates are dismally low especially for trophy bulls which he planned on shooting because of my reputation. He really was crazy! Continue Reading

Craig, Colorado is the epicenter of the northwest Corner of Colorado and has been around for well over a hundred years.  It is a quaint little town with a population of just over ten thousand.   That is true right up to the opening of hunting season. Once hunting season rolls around, people come from all over the world to experience some of the best big game hunting the west has to offer.  Some of these premium units take more than 20 years of bonus point building to even be considered in the draw and it is very well worth the wait. I was pretty impressed upon firstglance at this bow. It basically is a single cam Destroyer at a good price point with the same reflexed riser and nice clean lines in appearance. Fit and finish was top notch with no noticeable machining marks and camo pattern was flawless as well. The overall balance is slightly top heavy but not to the point of being awkward. Coming in at 3.95 lbs puts it right there at the middle of the pack in the weight category making it a well rounded overall bow for all your hunting situations. After looking it over I went right into my arrow selection and overall tuning process. Continue Reading

Everyone has probably heard the saying, “buy the best optics you can afford.”  This is a philosophy that I learned long ago and there is a box of binoculars in my arsenal showing the years of my business success and optics upgrades over the years.   I started buying optics over 20 years ago and the technology and quality has improved by leaps and bounds.   What was the very top of the line optics twenty years ago won’t hold a candle to some of the lower grade models on the market today.  A person can easily spend over $2,000 for some of those top of the line optics and those units are absolutely fantastic, but they are out of the reach of many people, so we have put together a lineup of binoculars that will cost you less than five hundred dollars that are still good quality and will get the job done well.   This field testing has gone on over the past 3 months during our summer scouting trips and here is our opinions based on clarity, low light visibility, weight, and functionality.
