After filling the deer tag for pops, we have been focusing on getting a couple of bull elk on the general season with over the counter tags. No luck with that yet, but archery editor Shane Chuning hung up his bow on this trip and busted out his Thompson Center 300 win and made a great 375 yard shot on a 55 pound male yote. Definitely broke up the long day of looking for elk.

Day 3 of the hunt proved to be successful for the team. Dad harvested a 29″ wide muley that gross scores 182″. What a great buck, great footage, and a great day.

We harvested our first critter on the colorado trip. He falls just short of boone nand crocket but he was a must kill after getting into our cooler and eating some of my pumpkin satin pie as well as all of our tortillas.

5 hours over to Colorado and a quick stop at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Grand Junction to pick up elk tags. Another 2 hours north and we found a great camp spot. After pitching our wall tent, it started to rain. Our timing has been great so far. Need to find some good bucks and bulls tomorrow.

Colorado’s 2nd rifle season kicks off this weekend and we will be pulling out of Cedar City, Utah early tomorrow morning to get in a few days of preseason scouting for a quality deer to fill my dads deer tag as well as attempt to find some legal bulls to fill a couple of over the counter elk tags. This is an opportunity type of hunt and we don’t expect any trophy elk, but we do have our sights set on a 180″ buck for my dad. We will be updating the status of the hunt as we get service.
