No, there is a brass deflector.  The problem is the safety, mag release, bolt release and the charging handle mostly.  If you have an AR, try shooting it left handed and see how it is!

I have…ther is accually a training exercise to do so.   I was thinking the ready mag set up becuase you can do most of the above process from a single…"button" located near the trigger.  Might make it easier for a lefty.

That would be difficult. Surprised

Stag Arms makes left handed Uppers.  Isn't the main problem with shooting a right handed AR left handed having the brass fly in your face?  I think most of the other features could be ambidextrous.

You can also modify it to what suits you and what you want to use the rifle for.  I shoot left handed, so if I ever get one, I plan on changing out a couple things anyways just to make it more convenient (such as the safety, charging handle, etc.)

i wonder if they make a ready mag setup for lefty's

I concur, it would be awesome!  And building it yourself would be more satisfying because you know how everything goes together.  Perhaps someday I will take on this challenge!

It was for sure.  I was planning on building another one, but this time with no frills, nothing fancy.  and then boom, that's what I got.

Was it a fun build?  What special tools does it take to build an AR?

you need an AR stock wrench.  that's the only special tool you need.

tools i used where vice grips, painters tape, razor blade, phillips driver, punch set (I guess this could be considered a special tool if you don't have one), and I think needle nose pliers.

If I get a chance, I'll post the video I used to instruct me on the build.

it was fun, but there were frustrations along the way, like when I lost the detent pin I needed, and had to look all over town for another one, and ended up paying $5 to replace it.  I also bought a mil spec stock but accidently bought a commercial buffer tube.

Overall, very rewarding experience.  I sold it a few months after I finished it, and bought an AK and a glock.

I flipped the trigger spring upside down, so if you held the trigger back it would not reset the tigger.  Then you had to charge the gun again to reset it.  I'm trying to convice myself to build a 1911 now.
