It is important to be prepared 24/7 365 days a year.  If you wait it may not be available or the competition for supplies will send prices through the roof.

I don't believe that the world will end and we will all die, but I do feel that all of us should be smart and have the basics for any disaster.  Such as having enough food and water to last a couple weeks or months.

If a disaster did come and you didn't have any supplies, you would be kicking yourself.

Preparing for a disaster will Prevent a disaster.

That is good advice.Smile

I think most of these predictions and all the buzz surrounding them are to make money.  I know of generator salesmen that could retire after Y2K.  Maybe I will be able to talk my wife into letting me but a 12/21 preparation kit AKA more guns and ammo.

I’ve been seeing one thing after another about the end of something since the 60’s, and they all turn out to be bogus and the world keeps going. But don’t worry. After 12-21-12 passes uneventfully someone else will come up with another big worldwide disaster scenario that worry warts can fret over. Maybe I’m just too much of an old codger to take any of it seriously anymore.

Didn't the Mayans kind of, well, disintegrate, and become a bunch of rival city-states by around 1212?

If you don't believe in it does it mean it will skip from 12/20 to 12/22?

I think it's already happening.  No, not the end of the world, but that's not what the Mayan's, or any of the other several cultures who picked 2012 as an important year, predicted.  It's about it being the end of an age.  The celestial cycles operate on a 26000 year calendar, based on the earth's wobble.  There is evidence that could be shown to point to signficant changes that happen at the transitions of these cycles.

I don't think the poles are going to flip and the sun is going to fry us with solar flares.  I do think that we have been witnessing and will continue to witness (and be a part of) a major shift of civilization and society.  If you look at the last decade and the projected path that we are on, you can't really deny that it has been a period of major worldwide upheaval and it doesn't look like it's going to get any calmer any time soon.  I think 2012 is going to be a year of continued and accelerated changes, some good and some bad.  I look forward to it.

I know, I'm crazy.

The Mayan calendar was based on cycles and at the end of the cycle it resets, it like 1200 years or so.  Anyway it has happend before and it wasn't a big deal to them but they are not around to tell everyone that it is just a restart to the calendar system like we have a start to our year every year.  I know a tone of people that bought all kinds of the stuff for Y2K and they got stuck with it.  The generator dealers make a fortune and they probably will again.  We don't know when the world will end and if someone claims that they know they are wrong.  But it is fun to talk about and 2012 was a entertaining movie.

Don't think I could say anything more or better than what's already posted. I would encourage you to plan well for the what if's. There is no sense in living in fear. I learned that fear is a false prophet. 90% of the stuff we're afraid of never happens. About 8% you can endure if you put as much energy into planning and training as you do being afraid. A little fear is good as long as it motivates you to be ready. The other 2% you can't do anything about. Teach your kids that you are a present protector who loves them unconditionally (sounds like you already do) and how to navigate the 98% in their own lives and make sure that depsite the 2% of unknown, you'll love them always and that God loves them more. Mark was right about whatGod says. He is the best protector of us all us kids.

God says no one knows the day or the time and I believe Him. He says there will be hard times though, but not to worry.
